Provincial police in Valleyfield conducted a series of raids Thursday morning aimed at taking down a ring specializing in loansharking, extortion and selling steroids.
A total of five people have been arrested in connection with the ring, and three commercial buildings worth about $465,000 have been seized.
The investigation began in December of 2012 — and it revealed that those involved had lent money to people at interest rates that exceeded the legal limit. Police also confirm that threats were issued in an effort to recover the money.
The steroids were sold thorugh several businesses, including a Valleyfield gym.
