Power consumption slightly down, keep curbing power use: Hydro

Hydro-Quebec says power consumption is down slightly from yesterday's record - but the power utility is still urging people to lower their electricity use until the cold snap ends.

Consumption of power province-wide reached 38,340 megawatts this morning. That's compared to yesterday's record breaking 39,240 megawatts. Hydro says the lower numbers are due to slightly warmer temperatures.

Hydro-Quebec is asking that you reduce your power consumption during peak hours in the morning, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., and again in the evening between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Among the suggestions: turning down the thermostat by a degree or two, limiting the use of hot water and refraining from using major appliances like washers, dryers, and dishwashers.
