Montreal police have arrested a 29-year-old man who allegedly performed some sort of indecent act in front of a student at Royal Vale High School earlier this month.
The alleged incident happened on Jan. 17, but the 13-year-old girl only told her parents about it a week later.
It appears the man, who apparently has no connection to the school, was inadvertently let into the building through a side door by a student who noticed the man tapping on the window. Within minutes, he's said to have committed a 'lewd act' in front of the young girl before fleeing when he saw a teacher.
The girl gave a good enough description to police to allow them to arrest the man at his home this past Thursday, and then search his home.
Jim Pfaus, the chairman of Royal Vale High School's governing board, says the incident highlights the need for more security at the school. He also blames the Quebec government for cutting school board budgets.
"The school doesn't have money to provide more security than we have," Pfaus says.
Police say they've stepped up security in the neighborhood, and school officials are reminding teachers and students not to open doors for strangers, and to report any unusual behavior to a school official or police.
