"Wrong way" accident on Pie-IX Bridge

A motorist is fighting for her life in hospital after a "wrong way" accident on the Pie-IX Bridge early this morning.

Accident investigators shut down the bridge for several hours overnight as they reconstructed the scene. They believe the 37-year old woman entered the highway via an off-ramp around 1:30 a.m.

She was driving southbound in the northbound lanes when her mini-van collided head-on with a Laval Transit bus.

Sergeant Gino Pare with Quebec Provincial Police says the woman is in critical condition. Five passengers on board the bus suffered minor injuries

He adds that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident but investigators are still considering all hypotheses.
