Montreal police investigators spent much of the day Thursday at the north-end Fabre metro station, after a 48-year-old woman apparently strangled herself with her own scarf after it got caught in the station's escalator.
Police say they found the woman at around 9:15 this morning at the bottom of the escalator leading to the ticket booth. It appears that the edge of her scarf got caught in the escalator's mechanism, and as she tried in vain to free herself, her hair got caught in the mechanism as well.
She was apparently strangled on her own scarf as the escalator reached the bottom.
Montreal police are looking for witnesses, and they're reviewing surveillance tape of the incident.
