A pedestrian's night turned to horror when he found a grievously wounded man behind the St. Laurent Metro station, at St. Dominique and Maisonneuve.
The 48-year-old man had been stabbed and was transported to hospital in critical condition. He died shortly thereafter.
Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant says a woman was also on the scene and is considered by investigators as a witness.
"The information she gave investigators is that there was an altercation between two men that occured [...] and at a certain point, the suspect attacked the victim, aged 48, with an edged weapon."
Police are currently searching for a 35-year-old male suspect in the downtown area. They are also viewing security footage from nearby cameras.
Brabant says investigators have not yet determined the cause of the altercation. Both men were known by the police.
This is the third homicide to occur in Montreal since the beginning of the year.
