A first: doc requests permanent ban

A family doctor in Saint-Jerome has been permanently barred from practicing medicine - at his own request.

It's the first time ever the Quebec College of Physicians has been faced with a misbehaving doctor who requested that his license be yanked for good.

Doctor Michel Carrier admitted that all the complaints filed against him were true. He was up before the College's disciplinary board because he was having sexual contact with patients and playing fast and loose with drug prescriptions.

Carrier has practiced medicine since 1977.

He blamed his recent behaviour on health problems that affected his judgement.
