Updated 5am

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Montreal-area, but the storm system is broad-based and up to 60 centimetres of snow is possible in the higher elevations of  the Eastern Townships, Charlevoix and the Eastern Gaspé Peninsula.

The government agency also warns "The heavy snowfall combined with northeast winds of up to 100 km/h is causing widespread blowing snow conditions. Visibilities could be nil
in blowing snow, especially along the St Lawrence."

In the Montreal-area , roads are snowcovered and slippery.

The STM says it expects there will be delays today for wheelchair users at accessible bus stops.

The storm system has moved across New England and into the Maritimes.

There are a number of flight delays and cancellations on the boards at Trudeau Airport and FlightAware.com is reporting that more than 1000 flights have been cancelled in the United States.
