The Friends of Meadowbrook, a citizens' group hoping to save the golf course straddling Lachine and Cote-St-Luc, is denouncing a lawsuit initiated by real estate developers Groupe Pacific against the City of Montreal.
The would-be condo builders want over $44 million because their 1,500 unit project was repeatedly turned down.
As both taxpayers and preservationists, Friends of Meadowbrook say they are outraged at Groupe pacific's lawsuit.
They say the company paid $3-million for all 57 hectares of the golf course.
But the city would have had to invest an estimated $100-million in infrastructure to service the condos.
The site's proximity to rail yards also heightened security worries in the wake of last year's Lac Megantic disaster.
Friends of Meadowbrook say they are prepared to help the city if the lawsuit is ever heard.
The group is hoping to see the course converted into a park, but will be satisfied as long as it remains greenspace.
