Ex-Expos VP David Samson gets kicked off 'Survivor' on new season's first night

Miami Marlins president — and former Montreal Expos VP during the ill-fated Jeffrey Loria years — David Samson was voted off CBS's "Survivor: Cagayan'' on the first night.

Samson, who turned 46 on the day the episode was telecast Wednesday, wore a navy blazer, blue dress shirt and tan khakis at the start of the episode. He was elected leader of the "Brains'' team, which competed against "Beauty'' and "Brawn.''

"David is a strategic threat to all of us, but we vote together. David's going to go home and we're all going to feel better,'' said "Brains'' teammate Garrett Adelstein, a 27-year-old professional poker player from Santa Monica, Calif. "As far as I'm concerned, the biggest threat is David. He's very intelligent. I do think he's a schemer.''

This season is set in the Philippines province of Cagayan.

Samson voted to kick off J'Tia Taylor, a 31-year-old nuclear engineer from Chicago, and whispered to the camera that "in the real world I may hire you, but in this world not tonight.''

The tribe cast four votes to kick off Samson and two to kick off Taylor.

"I have no regrets,'' Samson said on the episode. "I played the way I thought I needed to play to get forward in the game, and the tribe just doesn't have it together or they have it together, just it's against me. But no hard feelings to any of them. I consider myself pretty much the luckiest person in the world.''

Samson and his stepfather Loria took control of the Florida Marlins in 2002, shortly after selling the Expos to Major League Baseball.

Um, really? You post a spoiler from Survivor right at the top of your main page with no warning within the first 24 hours of airing? THAT is not cool.
