Funeral home owner in financial hot water

The director of a funeral home caught dipping into the money clients gave him for pre-arrangement contracts may have repaid most of them - but now he has the banks and the taxman on his tail.

Patrick Fortin of Complexe Funeraire Fortin in L'Epiphanie stands to lose a mansion in Terrebonne, another house in Repentigny and his funeral home if he can't come up with nearly $1.5 million.

After being fined 100-thousand dollars for taking money out of pre-arrangement accounts, he managed to repay about 85-percent of the clients.

Fortin told the Journal de Montreal that pre-arrangement accounts will be handled from now on by an independent company.
