Former Liberal MNA found dead on a road

Nancy Charest was 54; her body was discovered on a private road in Matane

Former Liberal MNA Nancy Charest was found dead on the weekend.

Provincial police say a passerby discovered the body of the 54-year-old former politician on a private road in Matane early Saturday morning.

Police add there were no signs of violence on the body.

Charest, no relation to former premier Jean Charest, served in the National Assembly between 2003 and 2007 representing Matane, located on the Gaspé peninsula.

No cause of death is yet known, but an autopsy is planned.

Nancy Charest also ran as a Liberal at the federal level, but failed to be elected twice.
