People who bought a "Céline Dion-Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas" combo package via Tuango may be lucky enough to get their money back after the travel agency handling the vouchers went out of business a few days before the departure date.
Tuango spokesperson Aude Laliberté told CJAD 800 News that those who didn't cash in their voucher yet with Groupe Vacances/Voyages Plein Sud in St-Hyacinthe before they went out of business are not out of luck.
"For all those people who do not have a dossier with the (travel agency), we invite them to contact us directly at Tuango and we will offer those people a full refund for their purchase," Laliberté said.
Laliberté said 265 people bought the Céline Dion-Cirque du Soleil combo package and most have taken the trip. But the others including 134 who bought a cruise package with the travel agency haven't travelled yet or have seen their trips cancelled.
But those who already dealt with the travel agency have to go through the Quebec Consumer Protection Office to see if they can still go on the trip or if they can get their money back through the victims' compensation fund, based on "a case by case, trip by trip basis", said spokesman Jean-Jacques Préaux . Préaux said about a thousand people have contacted them already about the defunct travel agency not only about the Tuango case but other trip packages.
Préaux said it's best not to sit on these types of vouchers.
"Cash them rapidly. Use them rapidly, go to the restaurant, go to the exposition, go to the travel agency rapidly. Because if you're keeping them in your hand, it may be bad news once in awhile," Préaux said.
