The Charbonneau Commission will be partially suspended for the duration of the election campaign.

In a news release, commissioners France Charbonneau, Roderick Macdonald and Renaud Lachance stated "it was not opportune" to hear testimony while the campaign is on.

The hearings were due to resume on March 10, and they will — but only to hear a portion of testimony regarding false billing and the infiltration of organized crime in the construction industry.

After that, the hearings will shut down, only to resume on April 8, the day after the vote. Once the hearings restart, the Commission will deal with two potentially explosive subjects — provincial road contracts and political party financing.
