Repair work on the southbound lanes of the Mercier Bridge will mean closures for four entire weekends over the next few weeks — beginning this coming Friday night.
The two lanes going to the south shore will be shut down completely starting this Friday, March 14 at 10 p.m., and will reopen the following Monday, March 17, at 5 a.m.
The southbound portion will also be closed on three more weekends in the next month or so — on the weekends of March 28-31, April 11-14, and April 18-21.
Transport Quebec says important repair work needs to be carried out on structural elements under the bridge.
It also says two-way traffic on the other half of the bridge will be impossible — snow-removal vehicles would need both lanes going in the same direction in case of bad weather.
