There will be repair work done on two of the bridges between the island and the south shore, and on the yellow line of the metro.

And that could make travel a little more challenging than usual.

First of all, the Mercier bridge will be closed completely in the southbound direction between 10 p.m. Friday evening and 5 a.m. Monday morning, while repairs take place underneath the bridge. It will be the first of four weekends the southbound lanes will be completely shut down within the next month and a half.

Meanwhile, the Jacques-Cartier bridge will be completely closed to traffic between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday morning for joint replacement work on the bridge's span. That work will take place this weekend and next.

In addition, the yellow line of the metro will be closed completely for a second weekend, while extensive repair work takes place in the tunnels.

The yellow line will be closed for a total of 25 weekends in 2014, so that the work can proceed. A shuttle service will be in place.
