Outremont blogger wins appeal in case against Hassidic Jewish community

An Outremont blogger who had been taken to court by three members Outremont's Hassidic Jewish community for libel has won another round in court.

The Quebec Court of Appeal has upheld a Superior Court ruling dismissing the suit against Pierre Lacerte by community leader Alex Werzberger, real estate developer Michael Rosenberg and his son Martin.

They alleged Lacerte unfairly singled them out for ridicule. Lacerte supposedly zeroed in on them for flouting municipal bylaws when it came to issues such as parking and construction permits.

The trio was suing for damage to their reputations.

The suit was first filed in 2008. The plaintiffs still have the option of appealing to the Supreme Court of Canada.
