Record number of Quebecers sign up for mail-in ballot program

A record 18,273 Quebecers now spending time in 117 countries have signed up with Quebec's elections office to receive a ballot by mail for the April 7 election.

The previous record was 16,606, set in 1998. For that election, 13,435 of those eligible voters cast their ballots.

The elections office says the vast majority — 74 per cent — of eligible Quebec voters who requested mail-in ballots are now in Florida. More than 600 ballots were sent to France, and more than 200 were sent to Britain.

The DGE says the ridings of Westmount-Saint-Louis, the Bertrand riding in the Laurentians, and the Louis-Hébert riding in Quebec City each have 400 eligible voters who registered.

English Canadian students who live, study and pay taxes in Quebec are being denied the RIGHT to vote. Does anyone check the legal status of these Quebecers who are outside the province. I bet that quite a few of them permanently live there and are therefore not eligible to vote. I know of several who have US green cards but still illegally carry a health card and vote here.
