The City of Pointe-Claire has announced that most of the heavy lifting at an illegal PCB storage site on Hymus Boulevard has been completed.

In a statement , the Mayor Morris Trudeau says the former Reliance Power Equipment site on Hymus Boulevard has now been cleared of  old transformers and containers of contaminated liquids.

The process included removing 600 metric tons of potentially contaminated soil.

It was completed  at the end of January and the contaminants were disposed of at a facility in Alberta.

Trudeau says the second phase of the clean up will consist of soil analysis to ensure the area is clean and safe.

A secondary concern is to ensure that no residual contamination seeps off the property during the spring melt and Enviroment Quebec has officials on site to monitor the situation.
