Half of Champlain Bridge beams are deficient: report

The Champlain Bridge deteriorated at an accelerated rate in 2013, according to the most recent inspection report obtained by the Journal de Montréal.

Rust has spread to many parts of the structure, and steel rods inside the beams str seriously corroded.

The report said the most concerning portion of the south shore span is between Nuns’ Island and the seaway.

Much of the document, according to the article, was blacked out. The Bridge authority said that information was blocked because the report is preliminary.
