Liberal candidate in the south shore riding of La Pinière Gaétan Barrette was paid $1.2 million after he quit his position as president with Quebec’s Federation of Medical Specialists.
Liberal leader Philippe Couillard is reportedly aware of the golden parachute, according to what Barrette told the Journal de Montréal.
Barrette had been president of the federation since 2006 and quit on March 5th, 2014 to run for the Liberals.
The framework for severance packages at the federation is not public knowledge.
Brossard mayor Paul Leduc publicly endorsed Barrette.
His main opponent in La Pinière is Fatima Houda-Pepin, who left the Liberal party after a controvery over the proposed secularism charter.
