Piece of ice falls from Ville-Marie tunnel and damages car

Transport Quebec says a piece of ice was fell from the ceiling of the Ville-Marie tunnel and damaged a car travelling on the expressway Thursday morning.

An inspection showed there was no loose concrete on the ceiling.

Toward the end of the morning, a driver reported he had travelled eastbound through the tunnel and that something fell from the tunnel's ceiling, knocking his driver's side mirror off.

A spokesperson for the ministry says there's a de-icing procedure done every day on the structure during rush hour, but that the ice may have formed as the temperature was hovering around the freezing point late in the morning.
