A man in his 20's has been arrested after a stabbing in a St. Leonard apartment that was followed by more violence during a getaway attempt.
The drama began shortly after 4 o'clock Thursday morning when police responded to a call about a woman who had been stabbed during an altercation in an apartment on Cannes Street near Jean-Talon.
Patrol officers found a woman in her fifties who'd been stabbed in the neck and a younger woman who'd been beaten up.
The older victim is in critical condition, the other is in stable condition.
As police hunted their attacker, patrol officers set up a series of roadblocks. They discovered that a garbage collector, a passerby and a Montreal Transit bus driver had been roughed up by a person matching the description of the women's assailant.
Tracking dogs led police to an apartment building where the home of two seniors had been broken into by someone looking for a place to hide. The two seniors were not injured.
A suspect was taken into custody, and then transported to hospital. Police believe he may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Police say the suspect knew the two women he attacked; however their relationship still needs to be determined. Another witness and a three year old child were in the apartment at the time of the altercation.
