A PQ member who crudely described the Liberal party as a bunch of crooks and mocked new Liberal MNA Gaétan Barrette's weight is being widely criticized across the province's political spectrum.
Marc Laviolette is the riding president for Beauharnois and an ex-president of the CSN. He made the comments Monday night as the PQ was suffering its stunning political defeat.
Among those denouncing the comments were Gilles Duceppe, Bernard Landry and the CSN.
Libreral leader Philippe Couillard also said the comments didn't belong in politics.
"People who use that kind of language disqualify themselves from public life,"
he said when informed of the comments yesterday.
And CJAD political analyst Jean Lapierre said Laviolette had no class and no respect for democracy.
"There's a limit," he said. "If you attack a person on his physical appearance, if you attack a whole party by saying they're all crooks - there's a limit. And I think he's gone overboard."
Laviolette has since apologized,
