A major interchange in Boucherville will be out of commission for 19 straight hours this weekend to allow for an overpass to be demolished.
The intersection of Highways 20 and 30 will shut down between 8 p.m. on Saturday — the stretch of Highway 30 is scheduled to reopen by 11:30 a.m. Monday; Highway 20 is scheduled to reopen by 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
The overpass slated for demolition spans the 30, and was shut down by the Transport Ministry last week after being in service since 1966. A new one was built nearby last year.
About 130,000 vehicles pass through the intersection of Highways 20 and 30 every day. Highway 20 is the main road between Montreal and Quebec City.
Transport Quebec is urging motorists to avoid the area if they can on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
