What's open and closed on Good Friday

For most, Good Friday is a day off — though many things will carry on as normal.

Banks will be closed today, though you should be able to do your shopping as normal at retail shops, malls, supermarkets, SAQ outlets and the city's big open-air markets. Generally on Easter weekend, retailers take Easter Sunday off.

Garbage and recycling pickup should carry on as normal right through the weekend.

Every federal and provincial office is closed today, as will just about every municipal office. There may be some exceptions — you can call the city's 3-1-1 information hotline right through the long weekend.

The city's major attractions, such as the Botanical Garden, Biodome, Insectarium and Planetarium will be open on Good Friday. The schedules for arenas, pools, libraries and cultural facilities will vary from borough to borough.

Buses and metros will run on Sunday schedules, while commuter train schedules will vary among the five commuter train lines. Generally, though, there are many fewer commuter trains available than they would be on a normal weekday.

Parking meters, by the way, never take a holiday.
