The group Mercy for Animals Canada has produced a video alleging cruel treatment of animals at a veal farm in Pont-Rouge, just outside Quebec City.
The disturbing video posted in the Video Gallery section of the group's web site uses undercover footage to support their claims that the 800 calves at the farm are routinely kicked, beaten and confined to narrow spaces at the farm — and that no laws exist to protect the animals.
"This type of cruelty is endemic and systemic to the whole industrial farm system," says group spokesperson Stephane Perrais.
The group wants federal and provincial governments to revise the laws regarding cruelty to farm animals, and the Retail Association of Canada to pressure meat producers for better treatment standards.
