Gaétan Barrette says petition urging him to lose weight is 'bullying'

Newly-minted health minister Gaétan Barrette says an online petition urging him to lose some weight is bullying.

"If I were a regular citizen yes that would be bullying," he said.

Meanwhile, the man who launched the petition on his blog, Pierre-Etienne Vachon, is withdrawing the petition because of the nasty comments, but still maintains he's been misunderstood.

"I find it deplorable that people are interpreting my initiative as a personal attack against Minister Barrette," Vachon wrote. "Maybe I was a little clumsy in my wording. I apologize to everyone who was offended by my proposal or my attitude."

Vachon had wanted Barrette to commit to losing weight, because he says he believes the health minister should be a role model, and present something resembling a picture of health.

Vachon had conceded, however, that he "probably has the necessary administrative skills to fulfil his mandate."

He can dish it out but he can't take it. Let's see if he's minister material or just someone who creates more dust than substance. From what I have heard from friends in the healthcare, if this guy had is way in the past, anglo hospitals would have been boarded up by now. Let's see if he can make things work more efficiently, if not throw him back to the CAQ.

Let him be.The PQ has been on the guy case, ever since
he won his seat.I'm sure its all their doing, and its time for
them to accept their defeat. They are acting like a bunch of
children way too young to govern.

Anyone who agrees with this foolish petition has a mindset stuck in grade school. Those who disagree might want to focus on their own problems instead of childishly projecting their failures on to other people, especially those who are public servants and, obviously, those who are WAY more financially successful than they could ever hope to be.

    Doctors make the worst patients.
That being said, I worry for Mr.Barrette's health as a person. A petition was a bit much.
Political life takes it's toll....Jim Flaherty probably should have taken better care of himself.

Facts are facts. He is the health Minster but he should be ministering his own health .
a great example to us all.
