A Magog man who perpetrated on the most shocking crimes in recent Quebec history is now free without condition, having served his 14-year sentence for repeatedly raping his daughter over a 17-year period — even as she was dying of ovarian cancer.
Worse still, Renald Côté forced his two sons, Serge and Donald, to do the same.
Côté's arrest in June 2001 drew widespread media attention at the time. The assaults took place between 1984 and 2001 — the last of which took place in daughter Isabelle's hospital room, just a few months before she died at the age of 22.
Côte was given the maximum 14-year penalty for incest and sexual assault.
During his incarceration, Côté continued to insist he did nothing wrong, and has refused treatment for sexual deviance.
