Road rage fight on the Charles-de-Gaulle bridge sends one man to hospital

A collision between two vehicles on the Charles de Gaulle bridge Wednesday afternoon led to two motorists coming to blows — right in the middle of the span.

The fight left one of the combatants in serious condition in hospital. The other is now in police custody.

The accident happened at around 2 Wednesday afternoon on the westbound portion of the bridge linking Montreal and Terrebonne on the eastern tip of the island.

Provincial police say after the initial collision, the drivers of the two cars involved stopped — in the middle of the fast lanes — and got out of their cars.

One of the drivers slugged the other in the face. When police arrived, the man who was hit was still on the ground, unconscious, and didn't regain consciousness on the way to the hospital.

He has since regained consciousness.

Police arrested the other driver, who could face criminal charges.

They remain on the scene, looking for witnesses to the incident.
