One pedestrian was killed and another was seriously hurt after they were both hit by a truck in Rosemont Tuesday morning.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m. at the corner of Belanger and Chateaubriand Sts. Montreal police are suggesting the two women were trying to cross Chateaubriand St. when an 18-wheeler suddenly turned a corner and into their path, hitting them, and dragging them for several metres.

Both women were pinned under the vehicle for a time. Police and firefighters used an inflatable bag to lift the truck off the victims and pull them out.

One of them, a 71-year-old woman, was rushed to hospital with severe head trauma. The other woman is said to be in stable condition in hospital, with injuries to her upper body and one leg.
