Private daycare operators accused of leaving children alone

Charges may be filed against the operator of a private daycare in Quebec City after a parent showed up this week, only to have the door answered by a six year old girl.

The daycare is in a private home in the borough of Charlesbourg.

The parent called police after entering the house and finding several children asleep inside, but no adult present.

A few minutes later a woman showed up, carrying a case of beer and a few groceries.

Police tell the Journal de Montreal they have forwarded a report and charges may be pending.

Youth Protection has also been brought in, but because the home operates privately , the government cannot get involved because the home doesn't have a licence to suspend or revoke.

Police say the the case is a cautionary tale for parents to check the credentials and references when deciding to use the services of a private daycare operator.

Criminal charges MUST be laid for endangerment of minors. The owner's name(s) MUST also be made public so that everyone knows not to send their children there. It's a sad state of affairs when beer is more important than children.
