Place des festivals fountains already need work

The Place des festivals fountains have sprung a leak.

An investigation into the pipes underneath the downtown festival headquarters revealed several pipes need work.

Apart from a major crack in one pipe, up to 50 others are leaking water due to problems with the glue holding them together.

The fountains' installation was completed in 2012.

Montreal mayor Denis Coderre said he has no intention of having the city pick up the tab for the repairs.

"You have to be responsible for the work you are doing," Coderre said. "If it's not done properly, well, it's supposed to be guaranteed and the [company] will have to pay for that."

The company that built the fountain told CJAD that the problems are minor.

Stephane Dion of Piscines Soucy Aquatik said the pipes can be fixed in about a day, and will only cost a few thousand dollars - a sum they are leaning towards covering, since, Dion says, his company considers the Place des festivals a major accomplishment for his company.

He'll be consulting with the city about repairs early next week and says he thinks the repairs will be done shortly afterwards.
