ST. PAUL, Alta. - Police in Alberta are trying to figure out if the killing of a priest is connected with a shootout that left three Mounties injured in the town of St. Paul.

The Diocese of St. Paul says Father Gilbert Dasna was killed on Friday at the church rectory in what police consider a homicide.

Police say that at about the same time there was an altercation between officers and a man in a pickup truck.

They say one officer was seriously injured when the truck rammed her police vehicle while two other Mounties were injured in the shootout that ensued.

The suspect, identified as 55-year-old John Carlos Quadros of St. Paul, is dead, but police say it's premature to speculate on a cause of death until autopsy results are complete.

Police say they don't know yet if Dasna's death is related to the shootout.
An Alberta unit that investigates the use of force by police, is reviewing how officers handled the incident.
