It was a weekend of traffic hell on the Champlain Bridge, but crews still weren’t able to remove the “super beam” because of high winds. The work, postponed at least for another week.
Workers moved the new support structure under the bridge Monday, but high winds delayed the entire project.
Initially, the super beam was installed temporarily to transfer the weight away from large cracks found on a section of the bridge, until a new support system was installed underneath.
But not all was lost, major repaving work was done on Highway 15.
Once the super beam is removed, all three lanes will be completely open, and narrowed lanes will be back to normal.
