UPDATE: Police to speak today about arrest in case of murdered B.C. hockey mom

VANCOUVER - Homicide investigators are expected to reveal more details today about an arrest in connection with the murder of a hockey mom from Surrey, B.C.

Julie Paskall, 53 died in hospital Dec. 31, following a vicious attack in the parking lot of a community ice arena days earlier.

RCMP Sgt. Jennifer Pound said Friday that no charges had yet been laid, however, police were planning a news conference for this afternoon in the city southeast of Vancouver.

Paskall's husband of 34 years told Global News he was elated by news of the arrest, but Al Paskall also said the issue will be settled for him only when there's a conviction.

Paskall's death rattled the community's sense of security and prompted some Surrey residents to demand the city and the police do more to keep them safe.

Surrey set a grim record of 25 homicides in 2013, including Paskall's murder, compared with only 11 the previous year.
