Montrealers will be able to get free internet access on some buses in the city this summer.
Since May you can get WiFi on buses running on route 150 on René-Lévesque Boulevard and as of June the same will be available on route 24 on Sherbrooke Street.
The service is being provided by Distributel, CEO Matt Stein, says they're testing the project for the first time, and they chose Montreal.
If it's successful it may be extended for a longer period of time and to other bus lines.
“We’ll be running the program for three months to start, and then we’ll determine where to go with it, depending on how people like it,” Stein said.
“We would look to expand it to more buses in Montreal and maybe other cities thereafter.”
The STM is not paying for the WiFi service therefore it shouldn't mean higher bus fares.
A bus with WiFi has surf boards painted on it.
“It’s not a typical looking bus, it’s very bright, you’ll know when you see it.”
