Quebec's tourism industry fears budget cuts; wants more money

Quebec's tourism industry is hoping to avoid cuts expected in the next provincial budget.

The festival season has begun with today's launch of Bike festival and officials used the occasion to not only plea with the government that their industry be spared any austerity measures, but, infact, that it be given more funding.

It's not clear how much it wants.

Industry officials say tourism employs a lot of people and should not be affected by any such measures.

The boad chair of the major international events network in Quebec is reported saying the number of international tourists in Quebec has dropped by 10 per cent over the last 10 years.

Reasons for that are said to be the recession and the stronger loonie.

The province's festival industry says it wants priority in the budget.

Here is a suggestion.. Take the money out of the OQLF and put it in tourism! The tourists will be serviced in the language of the entire planet.. Leave us their dollars, Euros etc and be happy!!!!! how's that????
