The federation of medical specialists is sounding furious against its own former president, health minister Gaétan Barrette.

A leaked memo to members has the head of the group cutting down the man who lead them only months ago.

"Who trusts Gaétan Barrette? Not me!" writes current president Dr. Diane Francoeur in a message to her membership.

She calls the health minister "condescending" and suggests that he would use the powers of government to overstep the need for a negotiated agreement on doctor's salaries.

"We are frankly not certain that the minister is in negotiation mode. He has no problem. He can take everything away from us!"

Following an interview with Francoeur, Le Soleil newspaper says she believes Barrette is making tough demands in order to prove he's not playing favourites.

The paper also quotes her as saying that the federation is "used to his theatrics."

rally the troops

Gaétan Barrette says the federation's seeming hostility is simply an effort by union leadership to rally their troops.

"That's, to me, business as usual for them"

He also calls the idea of forcing a non-negotiated solution an "extreme measure," but is not refuting the idea.
