Mayor Coderre honors hockey bet with New York counterpart

A bet's a bet.

The flag of the New York Rangers is flying at Monteral city hall after New York eliminated the Canadiens from further playoff action in the semi finals last week.

It'll stay up there for the weekend.

New York mayor Bill de Blasio isued a challenge to mayor Coderre.

If the Rangers won, Montreal had to fly Rangers flag in front of Montreal City Hall and eat some New York bagels.

"It was a friendly bet. He won, even if he asked me to bet after our first loss and when Carey (Price) was injured. It's OK, I still believed in my team. I am that partisan," Coderre said.

There are two flags flying.

"There are two flags because my friend de Blasio said there were no Rangers flags. But I found one that same morning, and he sent me one of New York City. To be good sports, we put both," added Coderre.

Among other things, Canadiens mascot Youppi! had to wear a Rangers jersey as a result of a bet between the Canadiens and "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon.

The show is based in New York.
