The family of slain RCMP officer Dave Ross held an emotional press conference in Victoriaville this afternoon.
They paid tribute to the young man whom they described as one who found strength in his family, his faith and his job.
Flanked by her family, Helene Rousseau fought back tears, her voice breaking several times as she recalled the last time she spoke to her 32-year-old son just two days before Wednesday evening's shooting.
Rousseau spoke of his love of the outdoors and his devotion to his pregnant wife, their 19-month-old son and his duty as an RCMP officer.
"He was a happy man. He really liked his job," she said. "He was my hero. I'm really proud of him."
She also spoke of his relationship with his wife.
"They were a really happy couple. They wanted to have four children. He was a good father and she is a good mom."
His brothers described him as their idol, whose decisions inspired them.
All said he would have been happy to know he died doing what he loved so much.
