UPDATE: Suspect arrested after bodies of woman and child found in stolen car

There has been an arrest in the deaths of a woman and young child, whose bodies were found in a car in the Lower St. Lawrence region.

It appears the suspect was tracked down at around 1 p.m. in a wooded area in the community of Ste. Florence, not far from Routhierville, where the bodies were found.

Reports are suggesting they found the man in his 30s walking along a set of railroad tracks.

The manhunt lasted for about 16 hours — and police used sniffer dogs and a helicopter to assist in their search.

Police, however, are not, for the moment, confirming whether there's a link between the suspect and his two victims — a woman and her 7-year-old son.

Their bodies were found in a car — a blue 1994 Dodge Shadow — that had been stolen from Laval earlier in the day. There are apparently marks of violence on the bodies.

The car was also involved in a hit-and-run accident in the community of Causapscal, north of Routhierville, less than an hour prior to the discovery of the bodies.
