Montreal's SPCA took part in the rescue of 35 husky dogs from an animal breeder in the Lanaudière region earlier this week.
Anita Kapucinska with the SPCA says they acted on a tip that suggested the dogs were living in filthy conditions.
"They were just living in very unclean conditions that were not [consistent] with the regulations," she says.
She says the dogs had also lived most of their lives either chained outdoors or crated inside a house.
The dogs — who were being used for commercial breeding, sledding and guarding — are now in the custody of the Montreal SPCA, and getting proper veterinary care.
