Journal de Montreal turns 50 this weekend

It's a big weekend for the Journal de Montreal.

The local tabloid turns 50 tomorrow.

It was foudned by Pierre Peladeau, who went on to build a media empire called Quebecor, now one of Canada's biggest media companies.

The paper, which became an instant hit, used to sell for 10 cents and had 24 pages.

It's the largest-circulating newspaper in Quebec, and the highest-circulating French-language newspaper in North America.
