Pedestrian hit by car downtown; his condition serious, but stable

A portion of the downtown area was closed for more than an hour today following an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

It happened at Rene Levesque and Metcalfe.

"A driver which was going westbound lost control of his car and went on the sidewalk, hit the pedestrian in his 50's and the impact caused major injuries to the pedestrian. He was transported to the hospital where there's no threat to his life. The 25-year old driver was arrested on the scene", said police spokesman Simon Delorme.

It's believed the driver was driving drunk.

No word yet on a charge.
