10th anniversary of demerger for Hampstead, Côte Saint-Luc & Montreal West

It's a weekend filled with celebrations in Hampstead, Côte Saint-Luc and Montreal West, as they celebrate the 10th anniversary of their demerger from the city of Montreal and Hampstead's 100th anniversary.

The three municipalities will unite over the weekend to celebrate a milestone.

The mayor of Hampstead, Bill Steinberg, says a reminiscent symbol will be on display to mark the anniversary.

“We’re putting back the blue ribbons that we displayed 10 years ago in the run up to the demerger referendum as a symbol that we wanted to get our towns back,” Steinberg said.

Steinberg also points out that the referendum allowed for Hampstead to reach its 100 years.

“The fact is had we not demerged we wouldn’t be celebrating our hundredth anniversary.”

Bowser and Blue will be giving a free concert at Parc Trudeau in Cote Saint-Luc on Sunday at 4:40 PM, as part of the festivities.

My guess is that this celebration is being held to help Anthony Housefather win the Liberal nomination for the Mount-Royal riding. It would be inappropriate to combine the Canada Day celebrations with the 10th anniv. celebrations.

It is time to merge Cote Saint Luc, Hampstead and Montreal West into a single city.

The reason is quite obvious. Three administrations with three overheads.

In CSL, the clerical staff do all the work, but the managerial staff work less than an hour a day, and have a lot of free time. With the merger, three administrations, garages, and city councillors positions could be pooled and that would save a real amount of money.

Yes, the three cities would be outside of Montreal Management as one demerged community. We have a horrible waste of taxpayers money because each city is too small to be run profitably (Do we need 3 mayors, three groups of city councillors, and duplicate managers for hr, payroll, purchasing, maintenance, etc.
