Quebec seeks $409-million from MMA

The province is making public its claim as a creditor in the bankruptcy of the Montreal Maine and Atlantic Railway, the company involved in last summer's devastating train derailment in Lac Megantic.

Quebec is seeking 409-million dollars.

This sum includes 126-million dollars in taxpayers' money already spent on the emergency response and clean-up.

The balance is for expenses still to come as Lac Megantic's downtown is rebuilt.

The province says the total may rise once all the bills are in.

The explosion that resulted from the derailment left 47 people dead and set fire to much of Lac Megantic's core.
