Municipal unions hint at wildcat strikes

This could be a long hot summer on the municipal scene.

A coalition representing 65-thousand municipal employees says nothing is off the table as its members decide how to fight the Couillard government's pension plan bill.

The bill seeks to shift half the burden for pension plan deficits onto municipal workers, with arbitration to kick in in 2016 if a negotiated deal cannot be reached.

The coalition of unions is raising the spectre of illegal 24-hour strikes, although the word "mobilization" is being used instead of "strike".
