Liberals want to turn Quebec into Alberta, says PQ

The Parti Quebecois is accusing the Liberals of wanting to turn the province into Alberta.

Interim parliamentary leader Stéphane Bédard says the Couillard government's real goal is not to balance the budget, but to bring Quebec's spending in line with other provinces, putting Quebec's more generous social programs in jeopardy.

"What's the plan? It's to transform Quebec into Alberta," says Bédard. "We're all for a balanced budget, but to be the same as the rest of Canada is another question."

Philippe Couillard says he does not intend to reduce Quebec's spending to that level, and he says linking his efforts to Alberta is cartoonish.

"Is it an insult, do you think?" he said with a chuckle.

What is CJAD spending time paying attention to the PQ? The last time I checked the rest of the province had relegated the PQ to third party status, generally not a prime consideration. And, what is wrong with the idea of a balanced budget let alone being in the black like Alberta? The PQ lied about all of their expenses, lied about their legal opinions, did a great job of running the economy into the ground and now CJAD wants to care about the PQ's opinion of the economy? Odd choice.

Why not just go away and shutup! We're tired of hearing your crap! You're like a bad smell.

The PQ talks about the Quebec government spending less as a bad thing. The Liberals are being extremely timid with spending cuts. And what is with the Alberta-bashing? If some politician in Alberta accused their government of trying to turn Alberta into Quebec, there would be an outcry from the usual suspects.

What would be wrong with copying the Alberta model? Low unemployment, jobs, higher wages per hour! Wow! That sounds dangerous to me!

Alberta is financially responsible and does not or will not pay for things that it cannot afford! Unlike Quebec that keeps overspending and overtaxing its citizens!

It is about time to have a government that is willing to question how things are done and perhaps stop the gravy train on programs we cannot afford!

Keep up the good work Mr. Couillard!

And of course the PQ prefers Greece/Spain (bankrupt) to Alberta!

You mean turn Quebec into a province that doesn't need handouts to survive? That would be a change, would it not? But wasn't it the PQ who wanted to go drilling for oil before the last election? I never get tired of PQ buffoonery. LOL

We can only wish to be like Alberta!

You mean a province that is self sufficient and does not depend on hand outs from the rest of the country.

@More BS What a novel idea! (Light Bulb ON!) Maybe we're finally going to pull out of the abyss that we have been in - and they just can't stand that idea either.

The PQ's "leader" - for now - is just petrified that people's lives are going to get better and they are going to see the difference from the poor past to the enriched future.

Mr. Couillard, I think you're aiming in the right direction - just keep on this track and we will all be just fine here in the Province of Quebec !!!!

Maybe Bedard could put the economic wunderkind on the case, you know who I mean Nick Marceau to figure out Quebec's finances as opposed to Alberta. This guy figured out how to make a five billion dollar debt turn in to two billion in one night. Give us a break clan take a long holiday about for 4 years worth.

Quebec is a province of freeloaders and crooks. If we can get anything for free (daycare, education, etc.) or break the law without penalty, that's what we want, it seems. Look at the Charbonneau commission. We should hang our heads very very low and not even attempt to criticize any other province in Canada. We are led by a bunch of morons. I don't have that much faith in Philippe Couillard either. Hopefully he shows his stripes and lets us see what he is made of.

Pick any province other than Quebec. Any of them would be better than us. Quebec is a huge embarrassment. What right does this interim PQ pilot think he has to denigrate Alberta. Ever since Rene Levesque embarked on building up Ontario, Quebec has been sliding into an economic hole. Hopefully his followers will become former followers and wake up to reality so that we can transform this province from the corrupt, inefficient, fascist mess it has become to something resembling, I don't know, Alberta? Anything would be better.

By the way, Stéphane, if Quebec was more like Alberta, it would have a chance at been financially sovereign!

Mr. Drainville, where's all the money you squandered on the Charter? We could use it to pay down the debt!!

& PQ wanted would have turned Quebec into a ghetto if they would have stayed in power!! Who cares what they think - their finance minister looked and acted like an accounting clerk compared to what the Liberals have now. Good thing Quebec population was smarter than PQ.

If Bedad already forgotten, that their last premier was
ignoring the alternatives, for a prospering Quebec, how
can he govern, when for eighteen months, they were turning
the province into a financial desaster, and heading into a
rut.If he thinks their slate is clean,he is dreaming. He just want
    to rain on Couillard's parade.

I agree with you Slarty Bardfast.CJAD always do this
to the Liberals, than any other political party.I don't know
    what their problem is.
