Truck fire causes traffic nightmare on Highway 20

A dramatic-looking truck fire on Highway 20 at the western tip of Montreal Island Thursday afternoon caused no injuries, but it made the evening rush hour a nightmare for thousands of commuters.

Provincial police say no one was hurt, but traffic ground to a halt for a time on the Galipeau Bridge, and backed up traffic on the 20 to about St. Charles Blvd. in Kirkland.

"It's basically a parking lot," one caller told CJAD's Aaron Rand just before 5:30. She had left work in Lasalle at 4 o'clock.

Many drivers at one point just got out of their cars and started chatting with other drivers, according to a CJAD caller named Chris Hanson.
